QFF Renewable Energy Landholder Series Webinar 2: Developer Perspective

QFF have developed a toolkit to support landholders as they navigate, respond to and negotiate with energy industry representatives about accessing land for renewable energy projects.
The Queensland Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit includes checklists for landholders to consider, a guideline with suggested actions to take into consideration as well as other important information.
The Developer Perspective
During the development, QFF were joined by ACCIONA Energía Business Developer Manager Gavin Lee to discuss land access for renewable projects from the developer perspective.
During the webinar, Gavin explored the investigations and analysis undertaken at each stage of wind energy development.
For example, the development stages for a utility-scale wind farm are:
- Prospecting and Investigation
- Development and Planning
- Engineering and Procurement
- Construction and Operation
- Decommissioning
Gavin also explained the agreements that are used by developers as the project progress through these stages including the Access Agreement, Agreements for Lease and the Lease.
Consideration for landholders at each stage of the process include:
- Considering whether you want to host a project on your land?
- Who is the developer and what is their business model?
- How will a development impact on farming operations?
- What are the payments and other benefits for the property?
- What are the impacts and benefits to the community?
ACCIONA is one of the largest renewable energy developers in Australia and is currently building the 1,026MW MacIntyre Wind Farm in the Southern Downs and Goondiwindi regions, the largest wind farm project in Australia.

The Queensland Farmers Federation has developed, in partnership with the Department of Energy and Public Works, a landholder toolkit and guide to upskill and assist landholders as they respond to and negotiate with energy industry representatives about accessing land for renewable energy projects.
